ARSENAL are believed to be challenging Milan in the race to sign Dinamo Zagreb youngster Nico Kranjcar.
The 18-year-old is one of the best young players in Croatia and he is very highly rated within his homeland.
He has been touted as the heir to Zvonimir Boban and Milan have been quick to scout him.
The youngster was captain of his nation's Under-17 side last year, but he has accelerated through the ranks at Dinamo and is now on the edge of the Croatian national squad.
Arsenal, though, are also keen and they are believed to have watched him in the recent Uefa Cup clash with Fulham.
Arsene Wenger was impressed with what he saw and is believed to have added to his list of targets.
Wenger would also have been notified that Kranjcar possesses an Austrian passport as well as his Croatian nationality, which would allow him to move to England straightaway.
However, Milan are firm favourites to land him as they have a very good relationship with Dinamo and could tie up a deal with the next few months.
